My Story

Marilyn was brought up in a river of words. Her family and community read books aloud, recited poetry, sang songs and told stories when they gathered. Words exploded with beauty. Their magic made her want to contribute.

Marilyn has worked as a waitress, administrative assistant, journalist, medical receptionist, pharmacist and teacher.

Once she was paid $10 for a poem.

She was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Alberta and a Master of Theological Studies from Regent College.

Once she won first prize in a poetry contest.

                               Her heart lives in poetry.                                    

Most of her life Marilyn has lived in Calgary on the traditional territories of the peoples of the Treaty 7 region which includes the Blackfoot First nation tribes of the Siksika, Piikani, Kainai; the Stoney Nakoda first nations tribes of Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Good Stoney; the  Tsuut’ina First Nation and the Métis Nation of Alberta, districts 5 &6.
