Thank you to Na/GloPoWriMo for providing Brother J.C.’s concert introduction and Jane Kenyon’s poem The Shirt. And for the following prompt:

“While Brother J.C.’s warm-up and Kenyon’s poem might seem very different at first, they’re both informed by repetition, simple language, and they express enthusiasm. They have a sermon/prayer-like quality, and then end with a bang. Your challenge is to write a six-line poem that has these same qualities.”

From your diaphragm

Inhale bread baking, soup simmering

Exhale outhouse

Inhale Tell me about… Exhale They are…

Inhale ballet, boogie, ballroom, do-si-do, disco

Exhale proper, waiting to be asked, 1,2,3

Inhale love. Exhale feasibility.
